Merits

All Merits must be cleared with a GM prior to purchase.

Common Sense (1 XP)

Prerequisites: None

Effect: This merit allows a character, once per scene to make a Scholarship roll that, upon success, allows that character to gain insight in the ‘smartness’ of an act the party or individual is about to perform. It basically gives the player one of two pieces of information from the GM: ‘Yes, this is a good idea’ or ‘No, this is NOT a good idea.’

Danger Sense (2 XP)

Prerequisites: None

Effect: This merit represents your character’s heightened perception of things around him/her, granting a +2 bonus to one Perception or Sense Motive roll to detect the danger that lurks in the shadows.

Dangerously Talented (2 XP)

Prerequisites: 3 in both Craft: Explosives and Engineering: Explosives

Effect: This character has blown things up. A lot. To the point where they have an instinctive grasp of how a bomb is going to detonate. This merit allows this character to give their allies +1 to avoid damage from the character's own explosives, as well as giving all enemies a -1 to their roll to avoid damage.

Fleet of Foot (1 to 3 XP)

Prerequisites: Athletics 3

Effect: Your character, should you choose to take this merit, has powerful muscular legs that have been trained regularly, meaning he or she moves much faster than those around him. Mechanically this merit allows you to always act first in a given battle. Fleet of Foot 3 goes before Fleet of Foot 2, which in turn goes before Fleet of Foot 1.

Resources (1 to 5 XP)

Prerequisites: None

Effect: This merit represents your disposable income in credits. All paid members of the crew gain two (2) ranks in Resources for free. Resource ranks above 3 require GM approval. See this chart below for ranks and the amounts:

Resources Rank Credit Amount Dollar Amount
1 50,000 $500
2 500,000 $5000
3 5,000,000 $50,000
4 50,000,000 $500,000
5 500,000,000 $5,000,000

Risky Flying (2 or 4 XP)

Prerequisites: Pilot 3, Veteran Pilot merit.

Effect: This merit represents the length you’re willing to push the spaceship that you pilot to; beit crazy stunt flying or dangers combat maneuvers. You’ve got the guts to fly through space like no-one else. The 2 rank version of this merit gives you a +1 on Pilot checks, and the 4 rank version of this merit confers a +3 bonus.

Striking Looks (2 or 4 XP)

Prerequisites: None

Effect: This merit presents a characters above average appearance. The 2 rank version of this merit represents a level of beauty that turns some heads of both sexes. It grants a +1 bonus on Persuasion checks (upped to +2 for the purposes of seduction). The 4 rank version of this merit represents a level of beauty that is supernatural…almost inhuman. You catch the eyes of most people of all sexes and species. It grants a +3 bonus on Persuasion checks (upped to +4 for the purposes of seduction). The 4 rank version of this merit requires GM approval, and grants all enemies a +2 bonus to Perception when trying to spot you in a crowd.

Luxury (2 or 4 XP)

Prerequisites: May only be taken at creation (See Effect for More Information)

Effect: Your character lives like a millionaire or better, regardless of her actual Resources rating. She wears fine clothes, drives expensive cars and ships, and can always get a spot and exclusives clubs, restaurants, bars and resorts. She doesn’t pay for anything of it through cash transactions, instead her social ties and backers provide these comforts. The two rank version of this merit provides luxuries worth some 5 million credits (The rank four version of this merit provides the kind of lifestyle that alternately fascinates and disgusts the rest of the world. Four ranks of luxury mean you rub shoulders with celebrities, private cruise liners await you on EVERY planet and a staff of assistants follows you around willing to cater to her every legal whim – and a few illegal ones (recreational drugs, prostitutes, etc.). Both versions of this merit are subject to GM approval and must be explained through character background and/or character actions.

Veteran Pilot (3 XP)

Prerequisites: May only be taken at creation or with GM approval

Effect: This merit is a representation of your skill behind the helm of a ship. You may have flown Star-Freighters all your life, or you might be a natural flying Ace. Once per scene you may opt to automatically PASS any one Pilot test, because you’re just that good.
