Hydina (Sumdah Caste)

Socially Inept Biologist

  • PANIC: His medication prevents anything severe from happening, but Sunder is still prone to panic attacks and gets scared easily, especially by intense people and situations. His fight and flight responses are correspondingly strengthened.
  • Don't Look At Me!: While Sunder is the bare minimum of social interaction, he despises being the center of attention and is particularly irritated/frightened by being looked over and/or judged. He'll do whatever he can to get people to stop paying attention to him.
  • Clingy: When under stress, Sunder tends to grab a hold of something and absolutely refuse to let go. This extends into his interactions with others, as well. Even in normal circumstances, Sunder is calmed by gripping things tightly.

  • Common Sense: Sunder, once per scene, may make a Scholarship roll that, upon success, allows that character to gain insight in the ‘smartness’ of an act the party or individual is about to perform. It basically gives the player one of two pieces of information from the GM: ‘Yes, this is a good idea’ or ‘No, this is NOT a good idea.’
  • Danger Sense: Sunder’s heightened perception of things around him allows +2 dice to one Perception or Sense Motive roll to detect the danger that lurks in the shadows.

  • Prescription anti-anxiety medication (one pill taken in the morning and in the afternoon. No noticeable effect on non-Hydinian species)
  • Contact lenses (corrects mild nearsightedness)
  • Various books on alien cultures, alien mythology, biology, and biochemistry, along with various novels.
  • A variety of dull or dark-colored clothing that covers almost all of his plumage. This includes headgear and gloves. Orange plumage is just too eye-catching.
  • PDA with SubNet access.

Personal History

After completing his studies, Sunder signed on with Hyperion Research as a biologist and part-time translator. When offered a position on the Razorwing, he decided that exposing himself to new things might force him to face his anxiety issues and accepted.

Unless he concentrates hard on what he's saying, he tends to stutter. This is only cripplingly bad when he's the center of attention or when someone's intimidating him.

Sunder's political views are so far right that he trips over the first baseman when he tries to play left field. His blog is a bit of a running joke among everyone left-of-center, along with most people to the right of it. Of course, he's extremely non-vocal about these views in person.
