Inventory of Equipment:

  • Dataglasses
  • Laser/electrolaser pistol
  • Blue and white suit (kind of uniform-like, but not actually the uniform of any place)

Notable Character Traits:

  • I Built It Myself: Vermilion is exceptionally good at repairing and using technology he built himself. He gets a +2 to Mechanic, Electronics, and Piloting rolls using equipment he built himself.
  • Penny, Help Me!: He has a constant connection to his AI Penny, and can have her look up or analyze things.

Notable Character Flaws:

  • Are You Talking to Yourself?: Anyone he meets who hears him talking to Penny will generally assume he's crazy.
  • Blind Without 'Em: His datagoggles provide a HUD, not vision correction, but he's so used to wearing them that not having them will hinder him. He gets a -2 to all rolls when he isn't wearing his datagoggles.
  • Don't Say That Crap Around Me!: He tends to distrust anyone who espouses any kind of racial superiority, especially humans.

History:

Vermilion was born on the planet Sidrega, a particularly xenophobic and warlike world. Despite his misgivings over the rhetoric his parents, peers, and politicians used to describe aliens, he signed up for military service (not a hard decision, since it was mandatory), and was put into pilot training. He was immediately thrown into a war against the Tve'verva, and despite his best efforts, shot down behind enemy lines. His fears of being torn apart by the savage aliens were unfounded, as he was generally treated well. As he remained captured, week in and week out, he learned to talk to his captors, and learned that all races can be good people or utter bastards. When the base he was being held at was raided by Sidregan soldiers trying to free the prisoners, he decided he didn't want to return home. He fled the soldier who opened his cell, ran to the hangar, and hotwired a fighter. With that, he left and became a mercenary.

Name: Penny
Species: AI
Position: Crew
Experience Points: 3

Skills:

  • Barter 3
  • Electronics 2
  • Mechanics 2
  • Persuasion 5
  • Sense Motive 5
  • Piloting 3

Notable Character Traits:

  • Constant Contact: Penny is always connected, not only to Vermilion, but to the Extranet. This gives her access to unprecedented amounts of information.
  • The Magic of Holograms: Penny can project a hologram of herself for a good distance, even through walls. This allows her to have a presence outside her physical body.
  • Double Body: In addition to her holographic body, she has a robotic body as well.

Notable Character Flaws:

  • Your Memes Displease the Star Gods!: Imagine the typical NEET who stays on the Internet all day. Now imagine she can stay on 24 hours a day, and can browse and post hundreds of times faster than a human. And imagine that Extranet memes have had thousands of years to show up, evolve, and vanish.

History:

Penny is a recent creation of Vermilion's. He decided he wanted an AI to help him fly his ship, search for things on the Extranet, and provide social interaction. However, he did not realize what hooking her up to the Extranet within her first day of creation would do to her impressionable neural network. However, she's still useful and friendly, so he doesn't mind too much.
